Another popular and bestselling briefcase is the Colombian Leather Flapover Briefcase from famous luggage manufacturer Samsonite.
It holds the number runner’s up spot in my list of top 15 best leather briefcases, only ever so slightly bested by Kenneth Cole Show Business, though many people believe this should be at number one instead. They both have many similarities but I will be pointing out what sets them apart in my review.

Design & Craftsmanship

Press and release latch beneath the bronze buckles.
From the images you see on Amazon, the exterior of this briefcase looks like it has a reddish tint to its brown case, but that’s misleading because in reality, it’s as brown as a brown bear (excuse the lame comparison).
The single threaded seams are heavily stitched together providing durability, and its tanned stitching compliments the rest of the briefcase. The full grain Colombian leather has a worn look and is noticeably softer than on Kenneth Cole’s Show Business model.
The bronze hardware does well to conform, and its buckles give it a vintage look. However, they’re just there by design. To open the flap, you actually have to press and release the latch which hides beneath the buckles, and is relatively smooth enough to do.
Comfort
The handle is designed the same way as what you see on Kenneth Cole’s Show Business briefcase, where the handle comes up through a hole in the flap, rather than being attached on the flap itself. The handle curves well and is padded enough to provide a good comfortable grip.
You won’t need to worry about the durability of the shoulder strap too, as its canvas material combined with a leather padded shoulder rest is strong enough to withstand carrying at maximum capacity.
Compartments
Let’s get straight to the interior, as the outside has no compartments to speak of, nor does it have an insert at the back for a telescopic handle to go through.
The inside does provide a good amount of space though, and that’s made possible with its 16.5” height and 6” depth. This means that you can expect this briefcase to be fairly large.
Towards the front, there’s a large open compartment with a couple card and pen holders, and a small pocket that’s big enough for a mobile phone or a USB hard drive. Above those holders is a wide zipper compartment that you can store other small objects or documents.

Spacious and excellent padding throughout.
There are three small pockets and a very well-padded and deep laptop holder within the first main compartment. This section has enough room to fit two laptops let alone one.
The second main compartment is also padded, which allows another 15.6” laptop to sit inside or some folders. You can have this briefcase filled up at maximum capacity and it still won’t will too bulky.
When comparing inner capacity, the Samsonite Colombian Leather Flapover briefcase definitely beats ‘Show Business’ by Kenneth Cole, though they look very similar in design.
My Conclusion
You can add the Samsonite Colombian Leather Flapover Briefcase to the shortlist of quality and affordable luxury briefcases that’s available. Again, it’s one of those leather briefcases that look a lot more expensive than what it actually is.
Within its target market, it’s only rivaled by very few, with the most notable competitor being the Kenneth Cole ‘Show Business’ (read my full review here). There are swaying opinions over which one is better, but the fact is – Samsonite’s model is far cheaper, and this is the deciding factor for many people.
