Design & Craftsmanship
The Solo Classic PT136-4 Rolling Briefcase has a simple design that suggests a classic and professional style. It is made with a thick polyester fabric that is durable but unfortunately this is not water repellent as some users have found. The zips are heavy duty so are tough and sturdy.

This briefcase can be carried by the carry handle or rolled along with the extendable telescopic handle. There are two carry handles stitched on the back compartment which is cushioned and wrapped separately in a faux leather material.
The telescopic handle can extend to two heights with the push button lock which allow you to pull the briefcase along on its two large in-line skate wheels. Some people have found that everyday use of the briefcase will wear the wheels down quite quickly and a few have only lasted a year.
However as the briefcase comes with a 5 year warranty, this can be replaced. If the telescopic handle is not being used, this can be hidden in its own zippered compartment.
Underneath the briefcase opposite the wheels, there are two black plastic stoppers which will help the briefcase to balance when it is stood upright. This prevents it from falling forward.
The size of the briefcase measures 14.75” in height, 17” in width and 8.75” in depth which is a fairly compact size. Unfortunately, there is no back strap attached to the back of the briefcase so this cannot be used to slide onto suitcases with handles.
Comfort & Convenience
Many people have found that the briefcase is comfortable and light to carry around with the carry handle as it is cushioned. A few have mentioned that it would be easier to carry if the handles were better positioned in the front and back of the briefcase to distribute the weight more evenly.
With the adjustable telescopic handle, the two set heights are suitable for all users when wheeling the SOLO Classic PT136-4. The wheels do not make a lot noise either. However, some users have found that the handle can become a bit unsteady if the briefcase becomes too heavy which makes it harder to pull along.
It is suitable to take on flights as a carry on due to the size. But, a few people have found it is too wide to wheel along the aisles on some airlines so have had to carry it instead. It cannot fit under most airplane seats either.
Compartments
On the exterior of the briefcase, there is a large zippered pocket to store quick access items such as a wallet or tickets. The first compartment is a zippered organization compartment which has stitched in pockets to store a mobile phone, pens, CDs/DVDs, cards and memory sticks. Although there are no extra sleeves in this compartment, there is enough space to store a thin magazine, letters or thin documents.
You will find there is an accordion fan file in the compartment behind to store documents and files. There is enough space to fit one filled A4 binder and a couple of thin files but anymore will make it difficult to zip the compartment up.
At the back of the briefcase is the laptop compartment which consists of a padded pocket for your laptop. This can be secured in place with the Velcro strap. It can fit up to 17” laptops with a little room to spare. On the other side, there are two stitched in pockets for you to store plugs, mice and cables.
Although there is no overnight compartment, some people were able to fit in a change of underwear and travel toiletries into the compartments if they were not in use or too full. It is not really ideal to be used for short business trips or overnight stays.
Each compartment has two zips but unfortunately, they cannot be locked because the holes are too small for a padlock to fit through.
My Conclusion
The SOLO Classic PT136-4 is perfect for using as an everyday briefcase for business professionals due to its large compartments. It is particularly suited for those who often have to travel around during the day for business meetings. Even students will find this briefcase useful if they have often have a lot of books as well as a laptop to carry around.
The only downside is that it is not really ideal for overnight stays or short business trips as the compartments have no space to store a change of clothes. But, for its low price point and 5 year warranty, it’s great value for money and still gives you a professional and classic style on a daily basis.
